CALMER CON RETURNS TO BOSTON
A Sensory-Friendly Comics & Pop Culture Convention Adjusted for those with Autism and Anxiety Kicks off August 24th, 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WESTON, MA, July 6, 2024 — On Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, Calm Passion and the Boston Comic Arts Foundation will present the second annual Calmer Con Boston, a free all-ages sensory-adjusted comic book and pop culture convention. This event is specifically designed to meet the needs of fans dealing with neurodiversity, sensory sensitivity, anxiety and autism. It will take place at the Meadowbrook School, located on 10 Farm Road in Weston, Massachusetts.
Calmer Con Boston will feature many typical comic-convention activities, such as artist tables, vendors and cosplayers. Attendees will be able to participate in Jedi training, costume contests, artist tutorials, Lego building and Pokemon card game tutorials. There will be live music featuring favorite tunes from video games, sci-fi and animation, all performed at appropriate volumes.
In addition, in a designated Calmer Space, attendees will be able to relax and recharge before returning to the main event. Professional organizations will provide information about services for individuals and families.
For 2024, Calmer Con Boston will add more gaming to the mix, including video game tournaments, tabletop gaming and gameplay tutorials, and game-themed meetups. There will be a new Young Adults Lounge area, and even magic performances.
“We wanted to make the experience as authentic as possible in a sensory-friendlier environment,” says Adam Wilson, director of Calm Passion. “I have an autistic son, Logan, and our family was having trouble finding comic cons that we could attend together without him becoming overwhelmed. In 2016, Calm Passion was organized for the purpose of creating such events, and has held several since. Starting in 2023, and thanks to the support of the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, we have been able to present these great Boston-area conventions free of charge.”
Calmer Con Boston will be held 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Aug. 24.
There is no charge to attend, but attendees must register online beforehand at
