CALMER CON COMES TO BOSTON
A Sensory-Adjusted Pop Culture Convention for Those Dealing with Autism and Anxiety Kicks off October 21st, 2023
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Weston, Massachusetts–Calm Passion and the Boston Comic Art Foundation present a sensory adjusted comic book and pop culture convention on Saturday, October 21st, 2023. Calmer Con is specifically designed to meet the sensory needs of those with autism, anxiety, and sensory processing concerns while providing fun comic convention activities including vendor and artist tables, brick building, Jedi training, art space, and a Calmer Space where attendees can relax and recharge. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet costumed characters like superheroes, science fiction adventurers, and princesses, and are encouraged to dress up themselves!
“I have an autistic son, Logan, and I was having trouble finding comic con-type events that we could attend as a family without him becoming overwhelmed from sensory overload, so I started our own,” says Adam Wilson, Director of Calm Passion. “I wanted to make the experience engaging and entertaining, but presented in a sensory-friendly environment centering the kid and family experience.”
In addition to activities, Calmer Con Boston features many neurodivergent artists along with authors of comics and graphic novels that speak to the autism and sensory sensitive experience. Attendees are invited to meet special guest Christopher Eliopoulos artist and author of comics, picture books, and the Ordinary People Change the World series – the inspiration for PBS’s Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum.

Calmer Con Boston will be held in two separate sessions, from 10:00AM to 1:00PM and from 2:00PM to 5:00PM. Each operates as an individual convention to maintain appropriate sensory levels.
Calmer Con Boston will be held at The Meadowbrook School, located at 10 Farm Road in Weston, Massachusetts. The convention is open to the public and free with registration at https://www.calmercon.org/events/calmer-con-boston-2023.
